As you probably know we at U4E we are fond of AI. Our commentators are Avatars and we process the writers work thru ChatGPT for improvements. However, today marks a departure from our usual focus on commentary and news; we are venturing into the realm of policy advocacy.
We propose that the United States implement a modest tax on every robot sold within its borders, complemented by a similar levy on AI subscriptions. While the precise tax rates can be determined over time, it’s crucial to establish this principle immediately.
The revenue generated from these taxes should be deposited into a dedicated fund, free from the constraints of other government financial obligations. This fund would be managed by the employment department in due course.
Ignoring the significant impact that robots and AI-equipped robots will have on employment and the workforce would be short-sighted. It is imperative that we take proactive measures to ensure that the advancements in technology benefit society as a whole.
